Announcing the 2008 Spring Grant Awards!

1. Carrie Nonte(ZMS): "Connect to College Success"($2,750.00)  Provide student workbook, teacher guide and family workbook to 8th grade students to help them prepare for post-secondary schooling options.

 

2. Joshua Weirich (ZMS)-  "Recording in Session! : Creating the ZMS Recording Studio"($2,970.50)  Purchase audio interface, a wave/mp3 recorder, microphones, cables, stands and other necessary equipment to make quality recordings of student instrumental groups.

 

3. Sean Connor, Lindsay Downs, Monica Plantan and Sean Sweeney (ZMS): "Technology Pilot Parity: More for All Leaners"($10,000.00)  In support of a pilot initiative program which allows 75 sixth graders on one team to have laptops. 72% of the parents have agreed to purchase the laptops, but 14% are unable due to the cost.  This grant provides "technology pilot parity" for 10 students with demonstrated financial need.

 

4. Leslie Daugherty, Shannon Hall (PVLE): "Learning in a Digital World"($1,396.05)  This grant allows 1st graders to use a voice recorder as an educational tool by integrating technology and literacy skills.  They will record themselves and others while reading, singing and performing plays.  They can take pictures of one another and create photo stories.

 

5. Diane Herbst, Jonann Lamaster, Courtney Foster, Vicki Watson, Emily Duhn and Betsy Haas (Stonegate): "Concentration Boxes"($700.00)  Purchase of concentration boxes comprised of several different items used to help students concentrate while teachers give instruction or while students complete work at their desks.

 

6. Emily Clare, Jonann Lamaster, Amanda Livengood (Stonegate): "Enhancing First Grade Curriculum Through Hands-On Reading and Math Activities"($2,163.58) Students will be given opportunities to gain knowledge in a hands-on learning environment.

 

7. Leslie Frobig (Stonegate): "Sense-ational Learning"($2,172.72) Uses a multi-sensory approach that combines visual, auditory, and tactile experiences that will simultaneously provide students with an opportunity to utilize their most dominant learning style.

 

8. Lynne Munley (Union): "Get Up and Learn!"(700.00)  Purchase of RM Easiteach Dance Mat which compliments the "SmartBoard" by allowing students to use eye-foot coordination to stimulate brain activity using both hemispheres.  

 

9. Kathy Roy (Union): "Creating Independent and Automatic Comprehension"($362.94)  Purchase of a complete set of 16 fast-paced games that focus on the skills necessary to comprehend all different types of texts.

 

10. Deb Krupowicz, Cheri Mikesell, Jodi Hein, Shannon Hall, Michal Murphy (PVLE): "Happy Birthday, President Lincoln!"($2,592.80)  Provide support for all PVLE students celebrating the 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln in their participation in various activities.

 

11. Julie Noel (ZCHS): "Listen, Look and Learn"($600.00) The Freshman Center Resource Room will purchase audio books and DVDs for use by the Special Education Department.

 

12. Carly Galligher (ZWMS): "Making Language Arts Hands-On"(611.78) Purchase of materials that provide students who need extra support in their language arts skills with hands-on activities, such as games, high interest literature and engaging activities.

 

13. Barbara Burkhardt and Dan Layton (ZCHS): "Determination of the Genetic Diversity of the Dolphin Pod at the Indianapolis Zoo-Part II"($2,230.00) Last year a grant was funded in conjunction with IUPUI and the Indianapolis Zoo to determine if the recent cause of death in three dolphins was due to members of this dolphin pod being too genetically similar. This grant covers unanticipated instrument and supply needs that are essential to completing the project.

 

14. Kyle Park (ZCHS): "Dukane Projector System: Integrating Technology Into The Classroom"($2,420.00) Purchase of a Dukane projection system to enhance multimedia presentations by and for business students at the high school.

 

15. Abby McKinney (ZWMS): "Fast ForWord"($14,650.00)  Purchase of a software program that helps special education children build oral language skills, improve working memory, sequencing, processing and attention.  

 

16. Juli Speer (ZCHS): "Special Needs Tricycle"($1,033.85)  Purchase of an adult size tricycle for the Life Skills class.
